Radio and X-ray galaxies in Abell 566.
Abstract
Radio and X-ray observations are presented for Abell 566. The X-ray emission indicates a relatively cool gas (2 keV) with a fairly wide distribution (600 kpc core radius). Two enhancements in the smooth X-ray distribution are tentatively associated with 2 radio galaxies which are cluster members. One of these has a very steep radio spectrum. The pressure in this source from relativistic particles and the magnetic field is comparable to the thermal pressure of the cluster gas. Thus, the steep radio spectrum may be explained by thermal confinement and a turnoff of particle injection about 100-million years ago. A second X-ray source 17 arcmin from the field center, appears to be associated with a distant Seyfert. It is probably an example of the newly isolated class of Seyferts which have variable, soft X-ray emission.
